1879Graduation of Dr. Jōkichi Takamine (the first generation students) from Department of Chemistry, Kobu-Dai-Gakko (Imperial College of Engineering)
1886Establishment of Department of Applied Chemistry, Technical College, Teikoku Daigaku (Imperial University)
1897Renamed as Department of Applied Chemistry, Technical College, Tokyo Imperial University
1919Renamed as Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo Imperial University
1949Reorganized as Department of Applied Chemistry, First Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo
1958Dr. Naoto Kameyama (professor, until 1951) was designated as Person of Cultural Merit (Applied Chemistry).
1959–1961Reorganized into four departments: Departments of Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Fuel Engineering (subsequently renamed as Reaction Chemistry), and Industrial Chemistry.
1961Dr. Yoshio Tanaka (professor, until 1942) was designated as Person of Cultural Merit (Applied Chemistry).
1963Dr. Ryuzaburo Hara (graduated in 1913) was designated as Person of Cultural Merit (Applied Chemistry).
1972Discovery of the Honda–Fujishima effect by Drs. Kenichi Honda (professor, until 1986) and Akira Fujishima (professor, until 2003, currently Special University Professor Emeritus).
1977Dr. Takashi Mukaibo (professor, until 1977) was appointed to President of The University of Tokyo and designated as Person of Cultural Merit (Applied Chemistry).
1986Confirmation of high-temperature conductivity of copper-oxide compounds by Drs. Koichi Kitazawa (professor, until 2002) and Hidenori Takagi (professor, until 2011, currently professor of school of science), et al.
1994Three departments were reorganized into three new departments: Departments of Applied Chemistry, Chemical System Engineering, and Chemistry and Biotechnology.

1997Dr. Kenichi Honda (professor, until 1986) was designated as Person of Cultural Merit (Electrochemistry).
2004Drs. Kenichi Honda (professor, until 1986) and Akira Fujishima (professor, until 2003, currently Special University Professor Emeritus) were awarded the 2004 Japan Prize.
2010Dr. Ei-ichi Negishi (graduated in 1958) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2010 and was designated as the Order of Culture for 2010.
2017Dr. Akira Fujishima (professor until 2003, currently Special University Professor Emeritus) was designated as the Order of Culture for 2017.
2018Dr. Makoto Fujita (professor, currently University Distinguished Professor) was awarded the Wolf Prize in Chemistry 2018
